Of Campfires and Road Trips

Blue Ridge Parkway with The Family.

So, I won't be sharing a picture of the campsite. I do have one picture, well technically two, but they aren't as pretty as this one here. After we went camping, we broke down and loaded back up, dropped everything back at my friends, hopped in the shower and headed back out. Blue Ridge Parkway in her jeep was really relaxing. The temperature dropped about twenty degrees and so it was breezy and cool and just perfect. Camping was great too. It wasn't too humid or hot at all and the night even got a bit chilly. The camp site we were on wouldn't have fit more than two adult tents so it's good that another couple had to cancel. We do want to go back up there, rent a bigger site or a cabin. I believe there were a couple that could be rented. Oh and for those wondering, the bug spray I made up did seem to work pretty well, atleast for me.

What kind of bug spray did you make? Just wondering. I use Citronella essential oil with some other oils and it seems to work decently. Glad you had a fun camping trip!

I talked about it in another discussion I made here. I was going to do citronella but decided not to. I went with lemon thyme hydrosol and Gardenia E.O., I also put apple cider vinegar and water into it. I smelled a little like a flora vinagerette but the bugs didn't bother me too much. I didn't get eaten up by mosquitoes and no tick bites.

@mlgen1037 Exactly! It was very fun. I had put my hair in braids and put sandals and sunglasses on.

@mlgen1037 Definitely. I don't often get a chance to go out of town let alone out of State. Part of the Blue Ridge Parkway spans into Virgnia.

nice picture. How many days did you camp there? What bug spray did you do? Care to share?

I camped in a place called Hanging Rock, the picture above is of The Blue Ridge Parkway which was a journey we did later the next day. I used a bug spray I made myself and have made a discussion about it. Essentially I used gardenia EO, ACV, Lemon Thyme Hydrosol and Water. Oh, and it was just an overnight camping trip.

The Blue Ridge parkway is a 469 miles (755 km). I am not sure how many miles in we went but eventually we plan to do the span of it. It ends (or begins depending on how you look at it) near my family's hometown in Asheville, NC.

How long were you there camping? It sounds like fun.

We arrived close to five pm Friday and left around noon Saturday. We would have stayed longer but none of us felt like going to the lake so we packed back up and hauled out. We spent about an hour driving the parkway.

@kobesbuddy Glamping? I don't know what that entails but I've heard of it. I assume it's the beautiful scenery with running water and electricity at your convenience.

It was breathtaking. I wasn't able to see the picture when I was taking it. There was too much of a glare on the screen.

@Hannihar I'm glad you think so. I wish I could have gotten the color of the road a little lighter.

Thank You. It was such perfect weather for it. I am just glad the picture came out as good as it did. I couldn't see very well when I took it.

That is a great view overlooking your camp site. I enjoy my daily jog along a wooded area near our home but I don't think I would enjoy an overnight camping trip minus the comfort of a cozy bed not to mention the bugs.

This view wasn't overlooking my camping site. This view is from The Blue Ridge Parkway. We slept on air mattresses which weren't so comfortable but werent' so bad either.
