I guess I think yes and no. As I am a freelancer, I am pretty much with my computer every day. If i were at a 9 to 5 office job, I would have more socializing. So, social media is pretty much my form of socializing. Without socializing on social media, I would pretty much be out-of-touch. How about you?

yes. no confrontations to worry about. on the internet, if you dont like something you can just leave a down vote and shut off the computer.

I'd love to have a job writing short blog, from home! I'd enjoy that, very much:) Could you explain how this might be possible, for an amateur writer such as me?

I do not have a blog. However, if you like, go on-line for Blogger or Wordpress to start a blog. The free blogs are easy. But, you cannot make money on the free blogs.

I think it does isolate, people hardly talk on the phone. whenever I need to know something about things, it's there on social media.

8 years ago there was a time when I isolated myself from real people for one year. I work from home from 6am to 11pm and the only breaks I had where two to three hours each day. And during those breaks I was on my blackberry messenger talking to strangers from different countries and exchanging jokes with them. But then I was able to keep in touch with one of my colleagues back when I was still working in a language school and she invited me to have a drink. It was then that I realised how much fun I was missing out. So I got out almost every Friday or whenever we feel like going to a pub and just have a drink. But it lasted for two years only and then I went to another country, met more new people, came back home after 6 months and realised that I really just couldn't stay at home. I think I have a well balanced life now. I still spend my time talking to strangers online who I consider my online friends now, but at the same time I still go out and meet some friends, go shopping, watch a movie in the cinema or simply dining out.

@Spontaneo It was my father who always told everybody how his youngest daughter was the wisest. I didn't know what he meant by wise then.

I do work online at home. I guess I am being isolated at some point. But then, It is fine because I am quite an introvert.

I have a personality where I am quite shy so I find social media helps me to be more outgoing and connected to people that I wouldn't necessarily be able to talk to in real life. Sometimes I feel a bit overwhelmed by looking at the social media pages of other people who are apparently living glorious lives. I feel like I'm never doing enough to keep up.

I am similar. I'm a bit of a homebody. Don't go out much. So without the internet, I would be an island. So in that sense, for me, social media doesn't create isolation. It actually does the opposite. However, for people who, unlike me, are quite social "irl" in the first place, but then becomes somehow addicted to social media to the point that they forget to go out as they did before, or become too glued to their phones even when they are out with friends, then it can be said that social media can create some form of isolation.

Media in generally created isolation. People buried themselves in books, the radio, the newspaper. Social media is no different. We talk to more people, we do not have face to face conversations, but we do get to talk and learn more about the world, so I think that is good.
