I know if I were an official with the Bank Of America who mailed a check for $1 million dollars to the wrong person in Waxhaw North Carolina that is not a honest person, I would sweating bullets at home.
However Eric Gabriel is a Christian who admitted when he received a check in the mail for just over one million dollars, he was tempted to claim it as his own.
However Eric and his wife prayed if they should keep the money or return it to the Bank Of America.
Eric decided to return the check back to the bank.
The officials of the Bank Of America thanked Eric for his honesty since they admitted that the check they sent to Eric was a clerical error.

They should have rewarded his honesty. $500 would have been sufficient.

You are correct since the bank would have gained some nice public goodwill by rewarding Eric for being honest.

Good thing he was honest and returned it. That is a hard thing to do but he could not cash it if it was under someone else's name.

Eric said that his conscience did not permit him to cash a check that was not his in the first place.

What I am curious. What name was on it? If it wasn't his name he could not cash it anyway.

@Hannihar The article did not say the name of the person who was supposed to receive the check.

No problem because Eric wrestled with his conscience whether to keep the money and not have to work again or return the check since he did not want to get in trouble for stealing a check.

I can understand how it can be hard to return such a check but I would also be thinking just suppose it is really all a mistake and when I try to put the check into my own account I get caught and then I would really feel like a thief. No, I would also give it back to the bank.

Better to do what is right than get busted for being a thief.

Hi George. They listened to the guy to the right. It pays to be honest.
