If you follow, or participate in an amateur sport, there is a very good chance that the governing body of your beloved activity is headquartered right here in Colorado Springs. Such is the case with Ultimate (known as Ultimate Frisbee, although not officially, as Wham-O owns the rights to the name "frisbee," and players do use flying discs manufactured by other companies as well.) The origins of Ultimate can be traced back to Columbia High School in Maplewood, New Jersey, when a group of students invented the non-contact team sport. To this day, the game does not utilize referees, instead remaining self-officiated, even at the highest levels. Highly popular, Ultimate is under consideration for inclusion as an Olympic sport in 2024, and has been part of the World Games since 2001. Hence, USA Ultimate, the offices of which are located in the headquarters of USA Triathlon. Founded in 1979 as the Ultimate Players Association, USA Ultimate governs the sport in the United States, "Enhancing and promoting Character, Community, and Competition." USA Ultimate organizes and provides support for teams chosen to represent the United States in International competition, as well as sanctioning national tournaments in five divisions (Club, College, Youth, Masters, and Beach, all of which include teams for both males and females.) The organization also oversees end of season tournaments at the local, regional, and national levels. The Callahan Award is given to the best College Ultimate players (both male and female) annually, and there is even an Ultimate Hall of Fame. And now you know! (Info verified by Wikipedia)

Miss playing frisbee by the beach. I know that Ultimate is played here in the Philippines. Some well-known actors actually take part in the tourneys.

@allen0187 - It's a blast. When I was a kid in Nevada, my friends and I made up a Frisbee Golf course in the neighborhood. A few years ago, I was in a VA hospital in Wyoming. They have an actual, real course on the property. Played it all the time while I was there.

It's the very definition of a fringe sport. It's a cool game, though.
