Why is suicide becoming so much more prevalent in modern society? The news did a report on two well known and very wealthy and prominent members of society who both had one thing in common with their passing, they both commited the ultimate act. They took their own life! But it's not just the celebrities crossing the line of no return, it's students, children of young age. People who are ordinary. People who have no health issues. The one common factor in most of these cases is linked to mental health not being so good. Either they are emotionally damaged from a life trauma event, or they are mentally ill and may or may not have been diagnosed with a particular emotional or cognitive illness. Why is suicide turning out to be greater in number among people in our current society, even greater in number than vehicle related deaths and homicides combined? What do you think is or are, some of the current issues facing people today that leads to the final desperate act of crossing over from life to death at one's own hand? It is something to think about. One article, written by a writer at Psychology Today online is available for you to take a look at below. It is about the subject of internet gaming disorder vs internet addiction disorder.

I think one of the main reasons is this country pushing God out of our Society.

That is highly probable. It seems our society has turned tail in the wrong direction towards greed, selfishness, hate and betrayal.

One of the factors could be the proliferation of social media reliance. Everyone is on social media now, and start comparing lives: what they have, what they do, who's doing better etc. It messes up with you to go on facebook and see that everyone is successful, but in your mind you are not. Another thing is we are so wrapped up with online stuff that we start to ignore the real life interaction and the sensibilities that goes with it. When was the last time we actually had a sit down chat with friends over coffee without checking our phones? When was the last time we actually enjoyed each other's company without making sure we take pictures to post on the internet later? We spend more time on images that we fail to understand that behind all these are real lives and real people with real struggles. It has become the norm to keep up with trends that it suck us dry and we forget what we really are.

Yes that is a good way to see things. The thing is, basically, people have been too long entrenched in themselves, and social gatherings are not that high quality, and before the internet and social media people did go visit friends and family more, but, we are evolving on a global level now. People can decide to divide their time between internet use and basic living. I think that once we get the real hang of things, as they are pretty new to most of us, only the past few decades of using the internet to chat, buy and sell and seek others of similar interests, we will hopefully, soon, be able to set down our toys and regain our sense of place and purpose on planet earth. We are social creatures. The nature of our species is to have physical contact with others, and eye to eye chit chat. This is something that will never stop. Social media is actually bringing us closer more than we will admit.

Some member of a high society family I am not sure if its Royalty as yet has taken her life as well which I found very sad and very puzzling so its not all about having money and all the other luxuries sometimes. They need support to be able to continue to live but sometimes its too far gone to really help them out it seems.

@lookatdesktop I cannot think why that young woman took her life like that and it must have been for some very tragic reason and poor woman.

Where there is life, there is always hope. Nobody is beyond help.

I had to wait for other people to respond. Simple reason to see if I am once off again with what society thinks. Maybe. I do not buy God, but liked your answer. It is because we are getting worse and also we can report everything in a blink of an eye like my auto accident. Musicians, young people or people of a certain mentality seem to struggle when society is straight jerks. My only opinion, not a world they want to live in and came to the conclusion what ever they try will not improve it for anyone.

@lookatdesktop could be. Also that the younger generations nowadays do not have time for their family because of the technology, that no one notices what is happening in their family anymore.

@lookatdesktop Very well said and I agree with you 100%. We should all be aware of this for the sake of our family and loved ones. I limit the use of gadgets with my kids. No more gadgets on dining table and we have gadget-free days too!

Why? There must be some main points to be made and areas of cause and effect that lead to these occurrences. One thing might be simply that today, more than at any other time in human history, the young people of today fear for their own future and blame it on the previous generations that got us where we are now.
