KENYATTA UNIVERSITY CONFERENCE ANOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR PAPERS Report on the role of African University in the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals. 1. Term of Reference: As requested by the auspices of the United Nations General Assembly, a document in the MDGs was adopted in year 2000 for implementation and all developing countries committed themselves to the attainment of the goal by 2015. Institute of higher learning either in the deliberations on the implementation of the goals. KU plans to hold the said conference with the following objectives: To bring together scholars and administration of tertiary institututes in the East African countries. 2. Procedures: 2.1 To carry out analysis to undertake of all reports from the period period under review. Additionally a detailed survery of the action plan by the K.U be undertaken by all the K.U. officials. 2.2 Consultation to be held with various stakeholders and scholars. 3 FINDING 3.1 Analysis of report of eradicating extreme poverty and huger. The details given in appendix I show that poverty is caused by lack of essential primary needs that is to curb it. 3.1.1 Lack of food is caused by the following: 1) drought 2) disease 3) low earnings 3.1.2 Failure is comply with the society needs as a result all essential commodities are expensive – local manufactured and imported items. 3:1.3 Ignorance by the leaders who tend to think of their problems (only) 3.2. Survey of the extent of poverty The information gathered through the research shows that in a village there are three categories of people. 1) Needy 2) Old 3) Wages earns of Khs.20 per day 3.2.0 It shows broadly that the the poverty is extended to the three classes of people. 1) The wage earners 2) The middle class 3) The low class 3.2.1 The most affected are the low earners while they need much help. The middle class are considered to be poor because they can not afford the essential things in life. 3.2.2 If the most of the people from the low and the middle class educate their children then the extreme poverty cannot be eradicated. 3.2.3 Much attention given to the low and the middle class who are not wage earners. 4. RECOMMENDATIONS FOR IMMEDIATE IMPLEMENTATION 4. A.1 Improve life Have enough for all as mentioned above. It’s anticipated that the total population of 25 million Kenyans are poor. 4. A.2 All obstructions should be immediately cleared from high authority to the sponsors. 4. A.3 Have simple life Life is important so it’s important to make it simple and cheap. b) RECOMMENDATION FOR LONG TERM IMPROVEMENT 4. B.1 all concerned be informed well so that the national wealth be equally shared 4. B.2 The high class to assist the low and the middle class. 4. B.3 Training and publicity The KU and other institute to take a lion share to help and eradicate poverty by creating job. 4. b.c. BONUS SCHEME A board be formed to overlook and implement the recommendation by the KU. REMARKS/SUMMARY OF VARIOUS REPORTS 1. Wage earns: -Ksh. 20 per day -His expenses Ksh.200 per day, thus becomes Ksh.6000 per month. -Family members 30 -Primary aged child 5 -Secondary aged child 4 2.Middle class earns: -Ksh.200 per day totaling Ksh.6000 a month. -Daily expense Ksh.300 per day thus becomes Ksh.9000 per month. -Family members 25 -Primary aged child 4 -Secondary aged child 6 3. High class earns -Ksh150,000 per week -Expenses Ksh.10,000 -Family members 5 -primary aged child 1 -Secondary aged child 1 X POVERTY CAUSES -insecurity -Robbery and theft -Carjacking -Any other social immoral.
