Have you heard of vegan leather?

Today I bought a belt that was made of vegan leather. I wonder what it means. I can figure out it's not from animals, but what exactly is it. Is it the usual polyurethane and foam? It feels very artificial and is nothing like leather.

@AKRao24 turns out it is just PU foam and synthetic. Nothing fancy!!

@pitstop Using chemicals I guess... Just like other synthetic fibres are made.. Chemicals can be different..

It's usually made, as you say, from polyurethane and it varies enormously in quality. The worst is simply a textured plastic with a cloth support and the best has been known to fool (for a little while) people experienced in dealing with leather.

Usually it will say synthetic leather if it's that. I don't know why it did vegan specifically
