The best thing about nuclear missles is being able to divert an oncoming asteroid!

In light of the last Extinction Level Event, about 65 million years ago, that killed the dinosaur and most everything else living on the earth, what if another comet is on a crash course with earth? If so, why not work on a nuclear missile or group of missiles that could be able to be launched against one, in a time of immediate knowledge and prevent the ultimate destruction of the entire planet? Super Comet, Part 1 - The Impact - on YouTube.

It's may be of use but not tested, but without missiles also earth survived millions of years

Yes, but just in case, it's good to have them for this reason mainly. Not for nuclear war.

@lookatdesktop bit history suggest misuse is greatly possible.

@banksim , Perhaps history will prevent us from repeating the use of them for war.

That sounds like a reasonable use of our tax dollars.

It makes more sense than any other thing as to the use of dangerously powerful nuclear missiles. here is a link to part 2 of that docu-drama on YouTube.

@lookatdesktop What makes sense to us, though, might not to the government. Who knows though, anything could happen. Thanks for the second part.

That will be a good thing if the plan is feasible.

@lookatdesktop I dread to think what will happen if an object bombards our earth. We do have to take some precautions against it,but I don't think using nuclear missile to destroy it is a good idea, which will cause contamination from nuclear fallout.

It would be considered very feasible because there are many seen as well as unseen Near Earth Objects that eventually will bombard our planet. It's only that some are not visible until it may be too late to respond properly and for that reason alone, we should be more ready and prepared, just in case.

Nuclear energy can be used in constructive way as well. Good to know that. Otherwise mostly we hear about nuclear weapons only

Well, also, nuclear power plants are a greater advantage if properly designed and safely maintained.

@lookatdesktop True. But the radioactive rays that comes out from nuclear energy is dangerous. Sometimes I feel that nuclear power have a big side effect associated with it

A good project there. To test their missiles, some would begin to aim at the closest planets to earth...

Hope not. We don't need to send them at the planets. We might be able to test them by first making them in space and having launch ports on orbiting satellites or on the moon somewhere, so they can be pointed in the direction of any future Near Earth Objects that pose an direct threat to the planet Earth.

There are also advantages of using nuclear missiles but sometimes they use it for nuclear wars also.

There certainly are. But the threat of mutual destruction should on all accounts, be realized by all nations that even a limited nuclear exchange will do permanent damage to our eco-system all over planet Earth. No one is safe from the destructive forces of atomic bombs. It is something everyone needs to be educated about so there is no room for making big mistakes in the future. One way or the other, if we gain enough education in due time, the threat of nuclear war should, in theory come to a permanent close.
