For Brahmans in India, thread ceremony completes the Brahmacharya. The children at odd age 11 years or 13 years are given the diksha with Homa Yogya with the priest and Acharya guru chanting mantras for the Brahmin. The hair is shaven and Brahmin stays in Dandighar. The rules are stringent.

Thanks Jessa, it is a day that a jhola is tied to a stick called bell danda and the relatives touch the feet of the Brahmin and give him Bhiksha in the form of fruits, rice, vegetables.

The purpose is to give the child the title of Brahmin. From this time he has to be have strict discipline in life doing puja once in the day and following rituals.
