I always wear my seatbelt in a car. In India a lot of people don't think it's important. I've heard these two frustrating, amusing excuses from senior relatives about why it's not important to wear seat belts! I don't know whether to laugh or to cry...
1. You need seatbelts only when inexperienced people drive the car. Experienced drivers drive the car well and smoothly.
2. We are experienced passengers. We can hold ourselves steady if anything happens. We don't need a seatbelt to secure us.
How on earth do I talk to these people?!

Seniors are set in their ways so you would be wasting your breath trying to talk to them.

@pitstop They probably are wise. They lived in an era (as have I) when wearing seatbelts wasn't a law. People were allowed to use their own judgement around personal safety issues such as wearing seatbelts, wearing bicycle helmets, putting young children in car seats...etc. None of those was the law while I was growing up in the 70's.
I'm not officially a senior yet, but those older than I are probably still overwhelmed by all of the laws enacted around something as simple as driving a car. Laws that didnt exist when they first received their liscenses. Having someone younger than they reprimand them on something They've been doing safely all of their lives may make them feel undermined.
