TV Horror Review The Fades

Spoiler alerts – 2011 An under-rated gem of TV horror that sadly only ran to six episodes and one season. It was a genuinely terrifying drama. Paul is a seemingly ordinary teenage boy, desperate for his first sexual experiences, and hanging around with a geek called Mac. Paul is unfortunately able to see the dead, as ghosts looking for a way to transcend to the next plain of existence, but for many ghosts, or Fades, the few exits are closing down and when their inner light Fades, they are trapped in our World forever. Paul, who has terrible apocalyptic visions that cause him to wet the bed, learns that he is not the only Angelic, (those human living people able to see and guide the Fades). Unfortunately, when trapped in our World for too long, some Fades find that feeding on human flesh can lead to them taking over the living. The Angelics, including Paul, are trapped in the middle of a battle that really could destroy the World. Dark, bleak and often surprising, with a very sharp script. Well worth catching on repeats or DVD release. Some of the cast, including Natalie Dormer went on to roles in Game of Thrones. Arthur Chappell
