Cooking medium - a long history

Most dishes require oil or ghee as their cooking medium. It all started with coconut oil. We grew using this medium. My mother only used coconut oil and her ripe old age proved that coconut oil is good. But not so in our kitchen. Lots of bad things were said about this innocent oil and so we switched over to other mediums It started with Dara, Postman, Dalda, olive oil and we have now settled down to Sun flower oil which takes care of cholesterol. Finally it all boils down to who advertises effectively that tempts one to choose. I wonder if coconut oil would win as these days many are singing its praises

Good decision. Olive oil is expensive and so it should be used sparingly.

We are now having coconut oil early in the morning with warm water. While ne India uses mustard oil for their dishes, my mom always kept coconut oil for some special south Indian dishes to get the right flavour

I am for old traditional use. I use ghee and mustard oil /peanut oil. I use any refined oil to the minimum.

I have never used coconut oil. Actually, this is the first time I've heard of it. I often use peanut oil.
