What's the difference between an ordinary processor and a CORE DUO?

Can someone pls enlighten me? Im planning to buy a pc... i dont know if i should get a high Ghz or a low Ghz processor but a core duo... what do you think?

Yeap you're right. A low GHz Core Duo processor will definitely run faster than a higher GHz single processor. That's because with two cores, you can run many multithread and multitask simultaneously, giving advantage over single core processors in terms of efficiency and power consumption. I'd suggest going for dual-core, be it Intel or AMD. Personally, AMD processors pack quite a punch at a lower price. Remember also that the GHz doesn't matter when it comes to dual-core; just remember dual-core will run faster than single core even though there's a difference in GHz.
