It is more than a week but still.....

Life is unpredictable and changes are unavoidable. Some changes are welcome but some are unseen for and we take some time to come in terms with it. Some big decisions were the demand of the time and I had to take it. My mother in law is not keeping well. She is a patient of dementia and has kidney problem too. She needs a constant help and we have a full time help for her. Of late she was not going well with her electrolyte levels and was admitted twice to hospital in July. My health was also not keeping up with all the responsibilities, managing between hospital and home and my own issue with endometriosis and fluctuating sugar levels. Managing my work in school as a special educator and counselor was getting tough. My mother in law needs constant monitoring of the situation. I had to stay home to manage things. My work suffered and I could not let my special children suffer. SO I decided to take a break for this academic year and concentrate on personal issues and my health. It was a tough decision. Luckily, I got another special educator on a short notice to replace me and I could slowly transfer all things to her in two weeks. July 20th was my last working day in that school as a full time special educator. Since I have been with them for a long time, they offered me job to do from home....taking charge of their newsletter and come for conducting parents workshop once or twice in a month.I gladly accepted that as I wanted to stay in touch with my passion for early education. The counselling sessions in the evening at home were also becoming tough. So I have stopped that too for an year and sent my clients to some good friends of mine. One week has passed. This is my second week being at home. Everyday when I return home after dropping my younger daughter, I feel a vacuum...something is missing there. I am still to get used to it . It was a tough decision to take a break for uncertainty from something I loved to do...something I was so passionate about. Thanks for reading. Have you come through such tough decision facing situations in your life?

Some decisions are harder than others. Just an FYI regarding Shutterstock photos - they're not free to use.

@arunima25 You should. Maybe you can find a picture in Pixabay that will be similar and substitute it. There are a lot of people here who use Shutterstock without realizing it isn't free to use.

@Missmwngi I am getting used to the new routine but I miss the special needs children I worked with..it was my passion and every goal that they met with our combined effort gave me motivation to go ahead with more challenges. I am missing that.

I appreciate your decision to take a break from work and take care of the mother in law and other issues at home. It may be difficult to adjust with the change in life but gradually you will be used with the same. I am sure the change is only for sometime and things will be favour to you and you can continue the job in the near future. By the time take care of your health as well.

I have long decided to stick to my Mom most specially when she gets at her worst while she grows older every year. You're story is heart breaking as well with her condition. It's even scarier that my mom isn't telling me her condition and scares me all the time.

Bless you for your kindness to your Mother in Law. How difficult this must be at this time along with your own health issues. I wish the best of health to be upon you both and family. I understand how this feels the void that is there also as you are so used to working. That is very hard to give up, I am sorry to hear all this.

It is understandable that it would not have been an easy decision to quit the job, which was very dear to you. Apparently, you were left with no choice, but to give up your job because of house hold responsibilities. I hope that you would come to terms soon and adjust yourself.

You are doing the best that you can under the circumstances. I think you have come to the right decision and chose what is most important - your mother-in-law and your own health. You are lucky in that you have such a supportive school system.

My kidneys are not at the 100% level any more, thanks to modern medicine. The medications I took for 20 plus years permanently did some damage. I have been devoted to my wife of over 35 years and am every day looking after her health and needs. I love her and want to keep her around for a long long time to come. So, I do the things I can do for her and myself and in spite of not working and living on retirement income, I find life is very rewarding. Love is keeping me together.
