About months ago, I went to my dad’s hometown and that’s Pontianak. Pontianak is in West Kalimantan, Indonesia. Indonesia but I am seldom go to Pontianak because it kinda far and super hot … but like old people says, no matter you gonna go, your home town will be always your home. Pontianak is famous for the only city in the world that sits right on the Equator.
When I visit Pontianak, I go to visit Equator Monument (Tugu Khatulistiwa). It was firstly built by Dutch in 1928, rebuilt in 1938 and renovated in 1990. Equator Monument is really amazing place because when the sun is direct above to your head, all objects shadows will 'disappear 'for a few seconds. Its not often tho, just happen twice a year, March 21 - 23 and September 21 - 23 and every time it happen, a lot of tourists will come to watch the event.
How about entry ticket? IT’S FREE! That’s why many tourists come to Pontianak go to see Equator Monument. But if you want get certificate plus photo as Equator Monument souvenir, it cost about 10.000 rupiahs (about 0.7usd only).

I went to Sumatra in 1994 and I was able to stand on the Equator in a village high on the mountain like road. I was able to hop north and south of the Equator. I know the Dutch travellers liked it there. It is lovely this place has a monument. Wow. I am keen to visit this area. It would be amazing to see the sun above and the shadows disappearing.
