Hello all, Although I am a very old myLotter, I haven't been here for years. I recently planned a travel to the UK for educational purposes and that reminded me of myLot. I was thinking maybe I could get advice about the town I'm planning to travel: Worthing. I am going to stay a month there and I would like to travel to other cities in the UK as well. Worthing is close to Brighton and also close to London. I have never been to the UK before. So I really need all the advice from locals and experienced travelers. Where to see, to eat, to drink, to stay, any information is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

@zhorak It's not allowed in the posts. But comments are a different thing. You're the only Turk on the site just as I am the only German here.

Welcome back to mylot and welcome to The UK when you finally get here. When are you planning to come to England? Gatwick airport is the nearest airport to Worthing. As you probably know Worthing is a seaside town not too far from Brighton which is a lovely town. Eating out is quite expensive in the UK depending of course what type of food you like. There may be cultural events organised by the school you are attending. and field trips to other towns or cities. Visitors look for bed and breakfast places to stay which are usually fairly cheap. I should imagine the school might have some ideas and suggestions. There are tourist information web pages where you can get a lot of information about accommodation, things to do both in Worthing and locally. Good luck with your research if you have any difficulty feel free to private message me and if I can help I will do.

Thank you for your warm response. I'll be there in September. My flight is towards Gatwick airport. Then I am planning to take the train to London and stay there for a night. Then I'll take another train to Worthing through Brighton. I wasn't clear enough about what I'm going to do there. I will attend an observership in Worthing Hospital. Actually it's kind of like working there. I said educational purposes because I won't have any income. So there is no school to advice me. I heard that Brighton is a lovely place. It's only a few minutes by bus or train so I think I'll visit there often. I also heard that Edinburgh and surroundings must be seen. Have you ever been there? What other cities should I see? I have all the weekends to travel.

@zhorak If I were you, I'd go to a travel agency and ask about coach tickets. When I was in Brighton with my husband (I was the head teacher for German pupils attending a language course in their summer holidays and my husband attended a course for grown-ups in a language school as a pupil) we bought a 'rover ticket' for travelling by coach (I think that was the term) for Wales and travelled there for a week. I'm sure you can get various offers also for a shorter time.

@zhorak Edinburgh is at the other end of the country there are some cheap bus fares available from Megabus and national express bus's from London. It is faster by train but it is a long way to travel in such a short time. National rail is a good site to look at with time tables and times of trains with fares. Weekend travel is cheaper than during the week. Any train usually after 09:30 is cheaper during the week, Examples of cheapest fares. Worthing to Brighton £7 by train return Worthing to London return £18.70 I hr 40 miins By Bus Worthing to London £18 return 3 hrs 05mins Bath is a beautiful city as is Brighton. Canterbury is nice as is Chichester or Winchester. Oxford is lovely. There are just too many beautiful cities to visit. London is quite easy to navigate but you do need to watch for pickpockets these days and very good walking shoes or trainers. A good route to follow is from Waterloo station cross to the London Eye a quick trip on that then across Westminster bridge to the Houses of parliament cross the road to see Westminster Abbey, Return to Whitehall and walk up half way past Downing street to Horsguards parade. Go through Horseguards Parade and walk through St, James Park or up the Mall to Buckingham Palace. Cross Green Park to Piccadilly walk down to Piccadilly Circus to see the neon iconic sign boards on the buildings the statue of Eros. Continue to Leicester square. Go through China town and head to Covent Garden then back to Trafalgar square. A lot of walking but you will get to see many sights. Alternatively you could always do a hop on hop off bus tour. OF course there is also the tower of London, Tower bridge St Pauls Cathedral all within walking distance! All museums are free to enter unless they have a special exhibition but that will be in just a separate gallery. You must try Fish and Chips they are delicious especially at the seaside sitting on the seafront with lashings of salt and vinegar! I hope this is of some help There are different rail cards on offer IE:18-25 years old that give a third off the price.
