What is left of the rainforests must be saved. Destroying them not only puts endangered animal and plant life and the environment at risk, it destroys a unique area where discoveries for cures for diseases have been made. Who knows what is left to be discovered. Besides, why allow such beautiful parts of the world to be destroyed just so that a few greedy people can further enrich themselves?

Each of us, in our respective countries, should make some changes. In my country, from yesterday on, plastic bags are banned as a way to hand out merchandise in supermarkets and shops.

@marguicha ~You are so right! We must demand that the representatives of our governments work to save our precious environment and to protect it from unscrupulous people who will do anything to make themselves richer no matter the cost. There are so many discoveries being made. I read that a company in the state of Florida have developed a six pack beverage can container is eatable by animals. Some companies have made reusable straws available. Many possibilities for reusable or more environmental safe replacements are being created all of the time. I saw an article on the internet about people making bricks out of recycled plastic to build houses.
I also agree with you about eliminating plastic shopping bags. Reusable shopping bags are very inexpensive and are available in tons of unique colors and styles that can appeal to just about anyone. People can get some to match their favorite outfit, help their favorite cause/charity and has popular characters from TV and the movies. (I don't know why, but I just love those little yellow minions with the blue overalls, so I bought a bag with them on it.). I always find a wide variety available at thrift stores. The bags are not only great for carrying stuff bought at the store, but also for carrying books or just about anything. (I bought one with dogs on it and use it to carry supplies like food, fresh water, a shovel for waste removal, and treats when I bring my mini Beagle puppy with me. I take her out with me a great deal.)

@flpoolbum If you have a sewing machine, you can make a shopping bag with old jeans. It will cost you next to nothing and be washable.

@marguicha ~What a fabulous idea!. I got the decorating bug when HGTV (Home & Garden Television) first began airing their programs. I wanted to do things like they did on the shows, so I learned how to and started using my wife's sewing machine to make things. My Mom was amazed how quickly I picked it up, I use to watch her sew things when I was a kid.
I even made curtains out of material that I liked and made it more interesting and personal. Beside, I saved a ton of money in the process. For example, I had a small window in my apartment door when I moved into this apartment. I had some material and made a two sided curtain so that the pattern would show on both sides of the window and make the curtain thicker providing more privacy. I will include a picture of the window curtains that I made.

@akalinus ~We can keep reminding our representatives of our governments about the importance of saving our environment. We can spread the word about these and other issues important to us by spreading the word to other people, including personal friends and our friends in the International community. Sites like My Lot, Facebook, Twitter, Instragram and other website are perfect for this. Care2.com has a petition site where you can find petitions on a great number of topics that you can sign and you can create your own petitions, too. Many groups hold local rallies to promote their cause. It's a great free way to meet people who share your interests.
