Day 41
Mark 14:10
Mark 14:10 And Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went unto the chief priests, to betray him unto them.
11 And when they heard it, they were glad, and promised to give him money. And he sought how he might conveniently betray him.
Have you been betrayed by someone you trusted? Did you wonder how they could have done such a thing to you?
Judas was one of the twelve disciples. He was with Jesus at all times. Because he was, he needed to find a convenient time to go to the priests to betray Jesus to them.
Betrayal is never convenient. It hurts too many people, including the person who betrays.
As Christians, you know the worst thing you can do to another is betray them. Betrayal permanently severs relationships. Once you betray someone, all trust is broken. There’s no going back from what you do.
Jesus later told the disciples at the Passover meal, it would have been better if the person had never been born.
Mark 14:18 And as they sat and did eat, Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, One of you which eats with me shall betray me.
19 And they began to be sorrowful, and to say unto him one by one, Is it I? and another said, Is it I?
20 And he answered and said unto them, It is one of the twelve, that dips with me in the dish.
21 The Son of man indeed goes, as it is written of him: but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! Good were it for that man if he had never been born.
Betrayal happens for many reasons. We don’t know the reason Judas betrayed Jesus, not on the surface. However, Jesus said it was to fulfill Scripture.
John 17:12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gave me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.
Judas played a key role in your salvation. If he had not betrayed Jesus to the chief priests, they might not have found a way to take Jesus, and salvation would have been lost to you. However, God had a plan, and his plan always bore fruit, and that fruit is your salvation, even at the hand of a betrayer.
Let’s pray: Father, keep my life and motives pure before you, so I do not betray you in any way, thought or action. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
