My son is 2 years 4 months old. He is having problems in learning English. We are not native speakers. How can we teach English?

As I mentioned in the previous discussion, we are not native speakers. Our mother tongue is different from English. We are really struggling to teach my son English. Any suggestions will be highly appreciated.

Find some age-appropriate children's programs on TV or Youtube for him to watch regularly.

@biooss Don't be too ambitious. If the child feels under pressure, he will refuse to learn anything.

Why don't you mention on your account page in which country you live? It would be easier to answer your question if you mentioned this. Such a small child like yours isn't 'taught' English. He'll learn it in no time just by hearing it from others.

We live in Hong Kong and we are from India. We speak a language called Kannada.

@biooss If you can afford it, find a native speaker of English as a nanny or an English-only kindergarten. I'm sure there are several in Hong Kong.

@MALUSE You are right. Because of how young he is, being around english speakers is the easiest way for him to pick up the language because right now he is a sponge, he can absorb the language in a couple of months

So does he speaks your native language yet? If not its coz he is young, he will learn any language with time. Children are even better in learning languages and there are many ways now that you can improve it, such as songs in english for kids, cartoons , some toys that he can interact with. He will learn english with time, same as he would learn any other language.
