The Pope Arrives In Turkey - Is this visit going to work?

Hi The Pope landed in Turkey today on his first visit to a Muslim country, where he will seek to ease anger over his perceived criticism of Islam and mend a split with the world's Orthodox Christians. Before departing for Ankara, the Pontiff said in Rome:- "I am embarking on a trip of dialogue, brotherhood and reconciliation at this difficult moment in history." The outcome depends partly on the words and gestures of Benedict, who triggered an outcry in September when he quoted a 14th century Christian emperor who characterized the Prophet Muhammad's teachings as "evil and inhuman." I am not a Catholic, I guess if anything then I believe in GOD, but I am not what you could call "Religious" But...... I think this visit has to succeed so that the two "Mainstream" religions in the World, the Christians and the Muslims, can have some sort of sensible dialogue to sort out their differences.

I agree that this is a pivotal visit for the Pope. I will be watching it closely as well. The Pope definitely has an uphill battle if he is going to succeed.

If he´s going in a " trip of dialogue, brotherhood and reconciliation at this difficult moment in history ", then he has to do the effort to start talking to other religions and talking with those without any kind of superiority. We all are brothers under the same sun, over the same floor, so Catolics and Muslims have to understand that a world where all religions respect each other it´s a better world to all.

Thanks for the news! I am Catholic, however, I don't pay attention to the Pope too often. I used too, but this pope has yet to prove to me that he is worthy of his position. What he has done in the past is in the past. He needs to show me that he is worth my time.
