I seen a post today about a story of a woman in her 70's, whom her family had place in a nursing home. her husband had passed away and her health was failing, although she had 14 children, none of them were willing to take care of her. She had spent years with no one visiting her except her youngest son. At some point in time, she won $300.000. on a scratch off ticket. She thought about what she was going to do with the money and was going to have the amount equally between her children upon her death. But then she started thinking about how all of her children except for the youngest had neglected her. So in the end, she give her youngest son 10% of the money, and the rest to charity. None of her other children got anything. I don't know if the story is true or not, If it is true, good for her! I worked in a nursing home one time, and there were residents their that never got any visitors.and you knew they had family members. In some cases the only time you would see family members come is when the person had died. I think this is so sad, it's like some people places their parents in a nursing home and just acts like their no longer living and goes about their life.

Not knowing the rest of the story, who are we to judge. My mother inlaw chose to move into a nursing home....we visited, but not as often as if she was closer. The fact that her children didn't visit, even after she won a sizeable amount of money would suggest they weren't interested in her money.....who knows how she treated her family?

I see what your saying, I guess the ones I'm talking about are like my cousin was, his mother had taken care of her mother, but he flat out told me one day that he wasn't going to sit around and take care of his mother, like she did hers. He said he was going to live his life and he didn't care. I think as far as the money goes, the way I read it was that your children hadn't been to see her in around 5 years prier to her winning the money. As far as not knowing how she treated her family, your right, that's what I told one of the other workers at the nursing home when we were talking about it. I guess it just makes you sad when you see them there and some of them can't understand why they are there.
