I have always had an interest in jewelry and making obscure pieces but I never got into it as a straight away hobby. That all changed when there was a craft show and there were a ton of live demos and freebie kits. One of the promo items I grabbed was the three piece plier and wire cutter set from Cousin. It has a suggested retail price of $12.99 but I got it for five dollars. The set contains a set of round nose pliers, needle nose pliers and side cutters. All three of them are considered multi purpose tools that can be used for things other than jewelry making but they aren't heavy duty garage-worthy tools. One of the best things about these tools is that they have a thick semi-soft rubber handle. You can do a lot of open and close jump rings without hand fatigue and adding lobster claw closures is a breeze thanks to the needle nose pliers. Even at the suggested retail price this is a deal; eventually you will need to get other tools for jewelry making and wire cutting but for a starter set this is a great deal.

I have this set as well. I am just learning to make jewelry pieces and I cannot get the hook right to save my life!
