Ten Movies I Wish I'd Never Seen: Scarface (#7)

It's a nice, quiet Sunday morning. Why would I want to stir the pot on a nice, quiet Sunday morning? That's exactly what I'm going to do, with yet another controversial pick on my list of movies that I wish I'd just ignored. Here's the next movie on the list.
#7: Scarface
The 1970s were magical years for Al Pacino. He was nominated for five Oscars (The Godfather, The Godfather Part II, Dog Day Afternoon, Serpico, and ...And Justice For All) without winning. I think he took offense to that and set out to show the world what crappy movies he could make. Starting with Cruising he had a series of films that made me wish I hadn't been an Al Pacino fan. Author! Author was about as funny as a broken ankle.
Then there was Scarface. This Brian DePalma bloodbath and f-word fest made me wonder how low the cash flow was at Pacino's house. And I wasn't the only one: this movie was blasted by the critics when it was initially released. One review even counted the f-words because they said they lost interest in the plot of the film. Others called Pacino's accent a poor Ricky Ricardo impersonation.
Over the years this has inexplicably become a "cult classic." No. Just plain no. This movie is awful and wastes the talents of everyone in it (including Michelle Pfeiffer and future Oscar winner F. Murray Abraham, not to mention Pacino himself).
Pacino finally got his Oscar for Scent of a Woman. Wish he'd gotten one in the 70s so he wouldn't have made the horrid movies he made in the 80s.
Scarface
Directed by Brian DePalma
Released in 1983
My favorite line from the movie:

"Say hello to my little friend." This was actually an updated remake of the 1932 classic "Scarface" starring Paul Muni.

I read that the 1932 film was quite violent (for its time) and made movie studios and censors throw a fit.

@FourWalls The original was a landmark film. The director was Howard Hawks who would do Red River. Produced by Howard Hughes! George Raft and Boris Karloff in early roles.

I would advise against it. Remember, it's three hours you can never recover...and you can't un-see it, either.

I guess I don't have strong feelings about Scarface. I don't like Pacino that much in general..but he has made some good movies.
