It's not too late to learn to play piano!

I just made a comment on another post from someone who was lamenting that they wish they'd learned to play piano when they were young. It reminded me that it's never too late to start.
That's especially true with today's technology. You don't have to spend hundreds of dollars for a piano - you can start with an inexpensive electronic keyboard. And with so much instruction offered for free on the internet, you don't even have to spend a lot for lessons. All it really takes is desire and commitment.
Commitment is key. I'm saying that learning to play as an adult is definitely possible, but I'm not saying it will be easy. You'll need some stick-to-itiveness. But if you really want to play, you can do it.

That's great. I hope it won't be long before you're playing confidently.

We had a piano in our home when I was growing up because someone gave it to us. It was out of tune and a couple of the keys were broken but that didn't stop my brother from learning how to play it! My mom sent me to take piano lessons. For a while I enjoyed the piano but then I stopped. I should have continued. It's a decisions I regret.
One of my daughters announced in 4th grade that she wanted to be in the school choir. I didn't stop her. She was in choir from elementary and all the way through high school. We never had a piano in our home. She said nothing to me about learning to play an instrument. I never paid for a lesson. Somewhere, somehow, my daughter learned to play the piano. I did not know she could play. How did I find out? I went to one of the school programs. A young man was supposed to sing solo but he said he wanted to add some harmony so he asked my daughter to accompany him. She didn't just sing along with him but she played the piano for him. It was the first time I had ever heard her play! Moral of the story? If you want to learn you'll learn! My daughter is proof!

Great story about your daughter. Sounds like she has some real innate musical talent.

My husband learned to play the guitar when he was 68, so you're never too old to learn, although like you said, it's much easier to do when we're young.

Funny--I just did a post about almost the same thing. I played as a kid, played again for awhile in College, and then (for the most part) let it go. Now, I'm trying to come back to it. The keyboard in my house has no sustain pedal. But it was given to me, so can't complain. I'm going to practice my old scales and play along with jazz records so I can start to figure out jazz progressions.
