making up after a home makeover

I managed to smooth things over with my wife today, after some argument over painting and floor covering for the living room in our home today. We managed to work things out but I had no idea that the following was true about conflict over home improvements between spouses sometimes leads to divorce. You tell me that 50 % of marriages end in divorce over home makeovers? That is a terrible statistic. I mean, a married couple usually works out their differences but when it comes to renovating the family home, and conflict incurs due to different color and decor preferences and costs, it takes a good strong marriage to insure against ending up in divorce court, rather than 40 love at the tennis courts. So, we did argue over what colors and what type of flooring and such. it's perfectly natural for me to argue over these things as my wife and I did some painting these last 5 days of a living room, dining room and hallway. There were a few moments when I argued and raised my voice, but it was the voice of frustration, not anger, but it all sounds the same and for that reason I need to learn how to chill with my wife, when we do home improvements together and try to get along, for the sake of our marriage and not end up being a statistic just to prove those statisticians right.

It's good to hear that you were able to patch things out with your wife. My husband and I usually argue when it comes to taking care of our daughter, especially when she is sick.

Not good to argue in any case. I am glad my wife and I have stopped arguing and can get on with the rest of our makeover project.

Glad you made up. Hubby and me argue all of the time when working together. Planning it usually isnt a problem, the getting er done is.

You just need to let your wife have her way and everything will be fine,

It just means you are both stressed out a bit. Once you have it all done and you are both enjoying your renovations then things will get back to normal.

Glad it's smoothed over now. When my husband and I built a screened in building/shack in the backyard, we had an argument over my not holding the measuring tape right. I finally told him, "You have two choices. You can stop yelling at me or I can go in the house." He chose wisely.

Yes, and saving the marriage was the end result. Keeping silent is the best for me.

That is interesting. I can imagine that happening. When I was with my long time lover, we did not split up over house renovations that went on for a long while.

In this case you were not among the average. Statistics are not exactly accurate, but do generally make a certain claim, based on the percentages. People split up over all kinds of things, even over politics.

@Courage7 , Yep. People can be so shallow at times when they break up over a little bit of differences of opinion.

I'm glad you've realized that. When our house is decorated, I usually make a decision. Even if my husband didn't agree, he wouldn't say it. He didn't want to argue with me for that. One of the two always gives in. My husband is that one.
