Stories of the Past

There are times on here when I write a discussion, I like to include a little piece of History that you will not get by reading a History book. For the older members perhaps is like "walking down memory lane" as some called it. I think I include this in my discussions and sometimes even write a whole one on things from different era's of time, because of this. But I think the biggest reason is for the younger generation that are on here. I remember when I was a lot younger and my father-in-law would tell me about life growing up during the Great Depression and my Grandmother telling about her experience also during that time. I found their stories both interesting and fascinating at the same time, Stories of acquiring shoes for their children's growing feet or how the very first school bus came about in our area. These are things you will never get from just reading a History book. As part of the older generation now, I sometimes think about how far technology has come and how so many things have changed. Things that a majority of us take for granted now. Things that some of the younger generation will never know about unless someone either writes about or tells them. Do you like sitting an listening to the older generation telling about their childhood or when they were young adults? For those of you that are in still in your twenties or younger, or maybe even in your thirties, sit down an talk to your elders sometime, heck, I bet some of them still has items that you wouldn't even know what it was, or how to use it.

I have noticed some of the younger generations are no longer interested in the past. And I just don’t get it. They don’t know who invented anything, nor do they care. I never pass up an opportunity to sit down and listen to my elders of how life was before my time. How hard my father worked, and how his father would sit on a persons doorstep for days until he got a job. Technology is great of course, but I feel it has taken away a lot of potential from some people, as they have become lazy.

Oh I do to, I agree with you about technology, It is great, but yes it is kind of sad that some will never know or understand even how to use somethings. I seen a video not long ago where didn't even know how to make a rotary phone work. I did have to laugh, they would dial the number without picking up the receiver, or pick it up, dial the number and put it back down, never putting it to their ear!

@sweetashoney I saw that video too! I laughed as well. He said yeah once I dial it, it will call Mom. I feel as if it will be the same in the future. They will look at smart phones and flat screen TVs and not know how to work them. Or probably even what to do with the plug, they might think it’s a tail or something.
