Poem - Rock And Roll
Rock And Roll is the new political
Manifesto where Left becomes Right
And the subversive angry radical
Buys into real estate and starts to write
Tory propaganda for New Labour
While Socialism-chic struts the catwalk.
Yesterday’s alternative comics bore
Us with their ads for those they used to talk
Of in such a way that we’d laugh and think.
Now they run corporate training courses.
My heroes have joined Entertainment Inc.,
Singing the praises of Market forces
And I wonder if, should I get famous,
Will I sell out or stay this dangerous?
Arthur Chappell

@TheHorse the temptation must run high. I was inspired by seeing punk singers of old advertizing butter on TV, and a singer who sang of the glory of dying young was investing his money in a salmon farm for his retirement

@arthurchappell Heh heh. I believe I've heard Jimi Hendrix muzak in a grocery store. If only I could write song for Britney Spears...cha-ching!

I think that dangerous should be the name of the game and long live rock and roll as you can rock 'em and roll 'em the way you see fit.

There are still a few of those comedians who never sold out. Robert Newman, one of the biggest money-spinners of the 90s, is now very much a left-wing comic.
Very clever rhyming scheme.
