ASMR = Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response Auditory triggers are common; sometimes it's a song or a certain sound that a plate makes when you run your finger around the edge of it. The ASMR community, unfortunately, gets sandwiched into the fetish classification when people talk about it or post things on message boards. Guaranteed, if you gave it a chance and listened to a few selections you'd have a different opinion of it Even more so if you have a reaction to the sounds. Wanting to test my limits, I started listening to a couple of ASMR artists that walk the line between everyday sounds and total erotica. One of my favorites was a male whisperer describing his fantasy woman that he sees on a train. He describes what she is wearing, how she smells like an ocean breeze and the things he would like to do to her to tease her. This is a form of erotica but there's more to it than just "dirty talk". After listening to about an hour of different ASMR videos I realized that the same auditory triggers I have face-to-face work in an isolate environment. It is so much easier to relax and decompress when you know no one else is watching. That, in a nutshell, is the internet. People will admit to things or indulge in experiences easier when they know that there are no repercussions from others. I decided to give ASMR a chance but wasn't sure what I should record. I narrowed it down to spoken word and the sounds you hear when I put my prosthetic legs on and take them off. I asked for honest feedback about them and it seemed like a split decision but most said that they liked the prosthetic sounds more. The spoken word was "The Black Cat" by Edgar Allen Poe - I guess I should say "whispered word" instead of 'spoken'. As expected, the video was passed around to the amputee fetishists community and some of their comments had to be deleted.
