Rice, Rice Baby!

The increasing prices of rice has become a hot topic and common discussion here nowadays especially that it has significant effect to the people. It’s a staple food in our country and a family can’t imagine without eating complete meals a day without rice. I admit it with myself. It seems that I do not get enough energy sans rice the whole day. The price increase brings worries to the consuming public because if this will continue, it will affect largely to the poor and even to those average earners. There's no fun in this and it's not fun at all.

@ZedSmart I don't have high hope with the higher officials. They are busy bickering with each other.

I hope they can look on this matter. According to them, no rice shortage yet and if that's the case the price increase is not justifiable.

I am at a loss now why this is happening. Our agriculture secretary is even boastful about it that theprices are soaring up because he is saying the farmers are also benefiting from this increase. It is such a lame excuse that he could not control it. I think it is not the farmers who really enjoys this but the rice traders trying to hoard it to get a better price for them. I think that is what the agriculture secretary failed to look at that is why his next step is to import rice from other neighbouring countries at a lower price which many are complaining that the rice imported is of low quality and is bug infested. Now he is saying it is safe to eat. What the???!!!!

@ZedSmart They are the ones that need to be checked on since they are just hoarding it to pump the price up and farmers do get a measly share from this traders. I even heard the secretary promoting eating corn instead as a substitute. This government is simply not doing their jobs properly and it sucks big time.

I believed it's always the traders who get the big chunk.

If this continues, I think we should learn to cut our budget in less necessary expenses.

Some lawmakers and the president himself insisted that there’s no rice shortage this time. If that’s true, why the prices rapidly increased? Are traders have the hand on this?

Yes indeed, the price of rice has increased. Well, there are so many factiors affecting such and one of which is the supply considering that our country’s producers of rice have been affected by flooding. I just hope tgatbour government will be able to solve the issue.

If it is a staple, the government should ensure that the price remains as stable as possible.
