Have you lost something but were returned several months after?

I had a handbag stolen from our house many years ago.
I was furious upon learning because my wallet containing most of my IDs' and cards were there including a cell phone and a psychology book. No cash but the IDs' are far more important because it takes time to ask for replacement. I regretted losing the book also.
I reported the incident to the police station. And because there’s no way out I can imagine how I would be able to recover the lost items, just like the other bad experiences we had—let it go.
Just when I almost forgotten the incident, I received a phone call seven months after from a person stating that she had found my wallet containing my ID’s. According to her, it was crammed in their backyard fence near the river. It was only the wallet but all the other missing items were not found.
Never mind the other missing things. Thankfully, the IDs' were back!
I was very grateful to the person because she understood the sentiment of losing valuables because she also experienced it before. After the short conversation about the incident, I offer something as my little gesture of gratitude but she declined it. All I said was just a grand thank you.
There are many bad elements around who are waiting to strike anytime to take something from you but there are also few individuals with caring hands and understanding heart.
Just when I thought having it back is impossible but it was in least expected time.

I lost my sanity... never returned it yet, just in case you found it, it is green and bubbly and a bit wriggly.

@ZedSmart Yes, but it's fun to lose a bit of sanity, it makes everyone saner.

The saying "faith in humanity is restored" rings in my mind upon reading your story. I would also like to commend the finder as well for being so magnanimous and generous to contact you and tried everything in his capacity to get in touch with you and return the items intact without even asking for anything in return. There are a few good men like that that are really that good.
I also have the same experience when an officemate of mine lost his wallet at a nearby coffee shop. He did not expect that to be returned but after sometime someone tried to contact him and traced him back to our office and claimed he found his wallet but there was no money in it anymore. He tried to repay him for returning the lost wallet but he refused to accept anything in return. He was I think a janitor working near that shop and got it on the road as he claimed it.
