Day 17 Luke 6:12-16 Luke 6:12 And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God. 13 And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles; 14 Simon, (whom he also named Peter,) and Andrew his brother, James and John, Philip and Bartholomew, 15 Matthew and Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon called Zelotes, 16 And Judas the brother of James, and Judas Iscariot, which also was the traitor. How many times have you stood on the sidelines while teams were chosen, hoping to be called for one of the teams? Or stood on the sidelines, knowing you would be chosen, but hoped you wouldn’t be last choice? Jesus chose his disciples from many who followed him. He had also called them previously, singly or by twos as when he called Andrew, then James and John, then Levi or Matthew. All were busy with their work when he called them. Yet there came a day when he specifically chose them to be his disciples. As Christians, you are chosen. You don’t need to worry if you are going to be last chosen because all those called have equal importance in the kingdom of God. 1 Peter 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light: 10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy. (KJV) It wasn’t by accident you accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord. He chose you before you were born, before God laid the foundation of the world. Jeremiah 1:5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou came forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. (KJV) Ephesians 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: 4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: 5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, 6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. (KJV) You are accepted, chosen. You have a place in God’s kingdom, a place that has been yours since the foundation of the world. Just as Jesus called the disciples, he called you. The next time you wonder if you have a place, consider your place in the kingdom of God. You didn’t need to wait to be chosen, you were chosen before God created the world. Now that’s something to give God praise. Let’s pray: Father, thank you for choosing me before you created the world. When I wonder if I have a place in your kingdom, remind me who I am in you, your beloved child. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
