Two and a Half Hours no power + 2.85" rain

United States

The sun is trying to peak out, despite the weatherman just saying the area would be overcast most of the day. We don't expect much rain today, atleast not that I am aware of. I hope it's made it's way away now. At about 10:10 last night the power went out, then came back on for no more than 30 seconds, only to go back out. I called the power company and they had no estimate for when the power might come back on. They were dispatching trucks to make assessments. I read. I probably covered about ten or so pages before my eyes couldn't handle it anymore and I put the book down. I am on page 233 and 393. I was actually expecting the power to be off all night but it came back on close to 1 am. The weatherman says we've had 2.85" of rain, there are areas in my county that are flooded. Florence, Be Gone! Youv'e wreaked your havoc!

I´m so sorry! Yet drought is as bad. We have had drought this winter. I hope fruit trees survive.

It is sad. There are areas in this world that have experienced dangerous amounts of rain, and then there are others who have experiences lack thereof, which is just as dangerous. I hope some rain will come your way! Is there a city wide water restriction plan for your area?

@ScribbledAdNauseum Not yet. But I know that I cannot water the lawn this summer as I have others.

@marguicha Ah okay, I see. I know we've had some summers when we've not had much rain and they advised us to use less water, cut five minutes out of our shower routine or turn the shower off when conditioning our hair, etc.

Wow, I was just watching some of the 12 O'Clock news..in SW VA Lunenberg County they just had a tornado from the remants of Florence..raining to beat the band here right now, but I don't think it will go on forever.

It is clear right now, and even sunny. I am hoping that things will be clear enough to go to the thrift store either later today or tomorrow. I had heard about the potentiality of tornadoes because of the hurricane, but I don't believe there were any threats around here.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Actually I think it was Mecklenberg..not close to here though..just one of those counties that border NC. I suspect it's gonna rain hard until 2 or 3.

Way to go, my friend. I am also almost finished with my book today. I think it is not good without power in our lives.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I hope you can able to finish it. I cannot finish my book because of too much work lately.

I need to read more of it today and hopefully be finished with it. I want to start another book I received the other day. Being without power really makes you appreciate when you do have power. I had a lamp that a friend bought me, it is a USB chargeable lamp, but it didn't keep charged but maybe an hour.

The biggest threat to humanity these days {at least in developed countries} is the complete loss of electricity. Can you imagine??!

Not to mention the real threat that it has on the lives of people who rely on it. We were anticipating days with the power being out, and had that been the case we would have had to rely on snack foods. We do not have a gas stove.
