When I was young, I asked myself why people climb mountains? If it's just for the breathtaking view they can always just look at photographs they can even have it in HD. Skip the sweats, skip the pains, skip the exhaustion, and skip the hardships.
But then I realised now that human beings crave to aspire for something. I learned that the view is always better appreciated when you've endured hardships along the way. The memories of the climb make the view more unforgettable and valuable.
Climbing mountains satisfies a yearning of the heart. Yearning to overcome obstacles and conquer the world. It makes us fall in love with hard work and appreciate life. Yes, we can always take the easy way out, but, we can also persevere for something absolutely priceless.
Photo is taken by me. Alicia Panoramic Park after 2 hours of climb.

Thank you. I loved that place. 2 hours to climb and 2 hours to go back down. It was a plight. Have you ever climbed a mountain before?

It was breathtaking. The photo doesn’t do it justice. I took it with and iPhone X. No heavy cameras for me.

About five years ago when I still live in the Philippines, my friends and I would regularly get together for a few days to climb mountains and camp out. It was rough but it was fun. I have never felt more alive and more secure with my friends than spending time with them in nature and relying to each other to make the climb successful. Plus, we always lose weight by the time we’re done so that’s always a plus.
The view and the feeling of success once we reach the summit is one of the greatest feelings. It’s a good way to detox and refresh.

It is indeed a different feeling of fulfilment and it’s really, really good to lose weight! I wish to do it regularly but my friends aren’t really very fit. One almost fainted twice on our way up. I am yet to try camping. First I need a tent and some fit friends to do it with me. :)
Which mountain do you and your friends go to?

@hereandthere Our tour guide said so. As long as you camp responsibly. No littering. They implement strict fines for littering.

That looks like a lot of work. I think I'll just sit here in the comfort of my home and look at the photo! haha
Seriously, I love hiking, and love mountain climbing. I try to do as much backpacking as I can, and often go for a week or more at a time. Like you said, the effort you put into it is absolutely priceless, and many life lessons and great memories are made along the way. I've also seen some amazing sunrises and sunsets from some of my mountain hikes.

I am not so adventurous before but I fell in love with a traveler and now I just want to backpack and travel all the time. Problem is as an Asian I have family pressures and expectations. If I backpack frequently they might think I’m being selfish and neglecting my filial duties.

@moffittjc Maybe if I get married and not have kids too early I can have a little more freedom and less expectations from family. I would love to travel a lot with my partner.

Thanks Maezee. It’s a memory I’m going to keep. Do you climb or trek?

We always tend to climb may it be mountains or dealings in our life. It is always an uphill battle.
