Is ignorance really bliss?

There is an age old saying that ignorance is bliss. Have you ever a situation which substantiates this saying? One which I remember was when the doctor in his sixties, whom I had visited to treat me, for which seems a common throat infection, received his own Renal Profile report and realised his kidneys have failed - he was so much heartbroken that he refused to see any patients. He knew his days were numbered.

yes I believe had heard of this.Well guess you cannot blame the doctor.Feeling like this.

@amadeo, for a layman extremely high serum creatine would have probably made him feel happy.

I think sometimes we're happier when we don't know certain things.
