They told my daughter she had a heart murmur, but then the next doc said no. So we never thought no more about it. I had one and grew out of it.Well, my daughter got sick and I took her to doc and she had tonsilitis and they also said her heart murmur changed and I need to take her to a heart specialist. I am wondering what does changed mean? This was lousy birthday for her, glad we celebrated early.

Athletes heart? I assume that means GREAT? That is good to hear! I read online that fever can cause doc to hear heart murmur when not one. So hopefully her fever caused it. Got to get that referal today though to have her tested just to be sure. My dad had a heart murmur and his got bigger, when he was like 55 he had to have a stint put in. His valve had closed down. But that is rare right?

Be careful with what you read online. I have only a few sites that I trust for medical info, either webmd or http://medlineplus.gov/

Heart murmurs can be congenital or they can develop later in life...often they are harmless but they CAN be a sign of underlying heart problems and should be checked. I would suggest you consult a specialist to insure your daughter's health. To read more about heart murmurs http://www.mayoclinic.com

Thank you for the link, will read up on that. Yeah, you should never take a chance with anything healthwise, always better to get a doctor check it, thanks!

I am sorry to hear about your daughter. I am not sure about what I am about to say, it is just a possibility. I'm thinking that maybe they think the infection she had somehow got into the heart lining. Or maybe they just want to make sure it hasn't. An infection can make your heart beat faster and just maybe make the murmur seem worse. I know when people have a heart problem and have to go to the dentist for dental work they give them an antibiotic because there is a chance of the bacteria traveling to the heart. Now I don't know if thats possible with tonsilitis. Its just a thought. I'm not a doctor. But if this is what happened, it is fixable. Stay strong and give her another hug from me. Please let us know what happenens.

They put her on antibiotics and told me alternate Tylenol and Advil for the fever. Told me keep close watch on her fever. We where having a conversation about her tonsils and what its like having them out and stuff. She changed the subject to her heart murmur mid sentence and thought I said they may have to take her heart out. She said that would be strange to live without a heart. Silly girl. Yeah, my dentist wouldn't take one my teeth one time, and thought it was strange. Didn't know about the infection being able to travel in your heart from teeth. Thats just crazy huh? Glad they smarter than me.lol Will give her a hug:) Thanks!

Maybe it's taken a different form. I'm sorry. I hope she gets the help she needs. You're a good parent for doing this.
