Costumed Santo Niños

A Santo Niño is a worship Idol Latin American and Filipino Catholics used for prayers. It is basically a statue of Baby Jesus. I guess some catholics prefers an image of a Baby Jesus over the image of an Adult Jesus or a crucified Jesus. In the Philippines there is a trend where some Catholics dresses up the Santo Niño depends on the job of the owner. If the owner is a farmer the Santo Niño dresses up as a farmer. If the owner is a Businessman, the Santo Niño will be wearing a suite. In Google you can easily see a Santo Niño that dresses up as a cop, soldier, doctor and any occupation you can think of. During Santo Niño festival they dress up Santo Niño statues in different costumes. I had seen Santo Niño dressing up like Superheroes and popular fictional characters. Some Catholics thinks it's Blasphemous. I even seen one that dresses as as Wonder Woman and dresses up as a Japanese school girl.

Everybody has his or her own style of worship, to each his own, as for me I worship a risen Jesus Christ, not a child, an adult nor a crucified one, simply an empty cross or an empty tomb, he is now risen and with the father but sent down the Holy Spirit, no need for images, no idols cause he dwells in our hearts, that's what I believe in but like I said, to each his own, so peace.

I think these costumed ones are kind of unappropriate. I mean dressing up as superheroes.

Well I don’t know how to react about this It’s really cute but I’m not sure it’s respectful? On th me upside it’s maybe faith being more versatile and appealing to young ages. More relatable?

So this is their way to make religion appeal to Millenials. Make baby Jesus do cosplays.

@CaptAlbertWhisker Well they say Jesus can be anything or anyone. That’s why we have to be kind to each other. But I think regarding cosplaying there should be some restrictions. And it should not be to ridicule.

Never seen this on part of town but I have to say it is an interesting twist to the Nino. I mean, Superman Nino? That is cool. I think most millennials will appreciate and most elderly people will probably shake their heads. This is an interesting take on religion and worship and I think a lot of people will continue this as a trend. I don't think there is disrespect but only a funny twist to the Nino.

Wow heroes I see. Sort of inappropriate but each to his own. I remember seeing a special documentary on this once on tv.

The red triangular dress is the traditional clothing of these Baby Jesus statues but now they started doing cosplays.
