Every year, the high school portion of my K-12 school has a week called School Without Walls. It gives students a chance to experience learning in other situations than inside school, but still tied to our curriculum. Freshmen (9th grade) stays on campus and studies the concept of leadership through "Lord of the Rings" and other such things. They also go on a hike. Sophomores (10th grade) go out to a lake in the mountains and study biology and geology of the area. They also get to go to a hot springs place. Juniors (11th grade) go on a week of Wilderness Hike. They learn to make a shelter from a tarp, cook on a campfire, etc. It's now called Wilderness Experience but most people call it by its former name, Stress Camp. Seniors (12th grade) are going to Nagasaki to study Japanese history. My school didn't have such fun things. The only similar experience I had through school was when I took first year Biology in the summer, and we got to go to the park and catch bugs and scoop up pond scum and study it. Did you ever have such an experience?

I can remember that our teachers would sometimes have class outdoors.

Nope I didn't. It was wall and secure every where. Once in there was no way out. But I think this is a good idea. I read this once. The Japanese lifestyle is so peacful.

All this lovely things that the school does for the students. No we did not have all that either. I am glad to know the students can learn and experience so much at this school.
