Day 45 Luke 11:29-37 Luke 11:29 And when the people were gathered thick together, he began to say, This is an evil generation: they seek a sign; and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet. 30 For as Jonas was a sign unto the Ninevites, so shall also the Son of man be to this generation. 31 The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and condemn them: for she came from the utmost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here. 32 The men of Nineveh shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here. 33 No man, when he hath lighted a candle, puts it in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick, that they which come in may see the light. 34 The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness. 35 Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness. 36 If thy whole body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle doth give thee light. People look for signs. They look at the weather to know what kind of day it will be. They look at their horoscope to find out what they should do, whom they will marry, and if it’s safe to step out of their home. Jesus told the people they wouldn’t be given any sign except that of the prophet, Jonah. God sent Jonah to the Ninevites to let them know God was about to bring judgment against them. Jonah didn’t want to go, and sailed in the opposite direction away from Nineveh. When a storm came up, the people tossed Jonah overboard and he was swallowed by a whale, where he was three days and nights in the belly of the whale. Jesus said, he was their sign for that generation. As Christians, you know Jesus was three days and nights in the grave before he rose victorious over death, hell, and the grave, and gave eternal life to all those who believe in him. Jesus then went on to give examples of people who would stand against them on Judgment Day because they believed what their eyes saw and their ears heard. Jesus told the people they didn’t believe and because they didn’t believe, the eyes of their understanding was darkened. When you allow Satan to cloud your mind, and don’t see the evidence in front of you, your understanding is also clouded. You need to cast Satan and all his wicked schemes from you, and embrace the truth of Jesus Christ. When you do, you will become a light in the dark. People will see and hear you, and they will accept Jesus as Savior and Lord because of your lifestyle. Don’t let Satan snuff out your lit. Keep it burning bright for Jesus Christ. Let’s pray: Father, let me be your light in this generation. Help me light up the world with your love, grace, mercy, and peace. Let me show people your love, so they will know you too.
