Another Hypothetical (part 1)

Opinions Requested You are in charge of taking care of a stately home. The people who have indirectly employed you (you work for an agency) have left a strict list of do's and do not's. There is no set time that they may return. It could be a month from now, it could be a year from now. Some of the rules you have been given seem rather assuming. Like, "you must eat ONLY in the kitchen." as if they think you are incapable of eating in the dining room or t.v. room without getting crumbs everywhere. You are given the coldest, most cramped room to sleep in, and there are many rooms that are locked against your entry. You have found loose keys that were hidden away. Do you wander about the house and grounds trying all the doors? Or do you remain the good employee and stick with the rules given to you? This is part 1, part 2 will be based off of this same concept.

Assuming that I would accept this job/position, I would abide by all the rules. My crumbs stay in the kitchen, I leave the keys alone and I make the very best of my cold, cramped room.

So ever the dutiful employee? You wouldn't feel insulted by their rules? Or the fact that they locked the majority of the home? Let's say they didn't lock away all of their most valuable items. Things like priceless vases etc are all there for you to dust, but things like bedrooms and bathrooms are locked from your entry?

@ScribbledAdNauseum The rules are the rules. In this case, I don't make them, I just try to follow them.

I am a curious person. I would try at least some of the keys. I would most likely just try to make the cramped room more comfortable but my purpose for trying the keys would be to find a cozy library for reading.

That would be a good reason to go pilfering around for sure. A grand and stately home like the one I've got pictured in my mind would certainly have a library. This is actually based off of the book I am currently reading. I wanted to get others opinions, though I am trying to do so without giving away too much of the plot.

I would just do as they say since I am getting money to.

I would assume that many doors were locked to save me having to do too much dusting, but eventually I would let my curiosity get the better of me and go exploring. After all, if the keys I found were hidden away, I'm obviously not the dutiful employee I make out to be, or I wouldn't have found them! :)

I'd probably go exploring and get fired!
