what was the event and how many helped you and attended I am organizing a large event at the moment and it is taking all my time. Our club is holding a Carols by candlelight on Wednesday 13th December and we are expecting around 1,000 people to attend . The event is free so we have had to raise all the money ourselves and even with sponsers it is costing us about $6,500. There are only 9 of us and most work all day so have limited time to help. I have arranged all thr performers ,advertising, and all the liasin between everyone involved,i have also arrsnged the stage and all the mucic and equipment needed. How did you find the whole experience

I have organised events in the past rosebug but not quite on the scale as you are doing, plus there were also more helpers involved. For me, initially it was daunting and for one particular Reunion there were those who were saying "it cannot be done" but we did it, and it turned out very successfully. I think that everyone was very tuned in to making the function a success, if only to silence the critics. LOL
It took us 12 months from the initial meeting to the actual Reunion, and as I said we had many helpers. Each of the organising committee had a specific area of responsibility and I only had to co-ordinate and liaise as well as put out a newsletter every 2 months. We worked on the principle that if 10 people turned up we would have a fantastic time and the others would miss a wonderful chance. However in the end about 600 turned up and the Reunion was held over 3 days. That was the last big function I was involved in organising.
I wish you every success for the Carols By Candlelight and after that you can relax till it is time for next year's. :)

You had a great turn out i am so happy for you.Yo said that you "ONLY had to co=ordinate and liaise" that is the hardest part and keeping everyone on track and in the loop up to date & liaising is the toughest part. Congratulations on your successful outcome. It must have been so satisfying and you now can look back on your great achievement

It should be hectic but interesting. I do organizing all the time but not for that much of a crowd. Maximum for about 150. Arranging functions in my Company is a part of my job. I know how these things turn out and how you feel. But i'm sure among the 9 of you'll, it will turn out nice. What I do is sit and make a list of every small activity that I have to look into. Then, start doing one by one. I make a format like, item, whom to call, contact details of that person, Remarks, cost and final ready date. Then its a bit easier. I wish you luck on 13th December and I'm sure it will be a heavenly experience to everybody who attends.

Thank you for your well wishes. i am loving every minute of it .I have a book with lists and list and lists every time i think i have thought of every thing something else crops up . the main problem is holding it outside where we have no power or facilities like lights, Toilets, shelter it is just a big patch of dirt so not even any grass and it is not even level so i have had to arrange to have it leveled and the toilets i arranged then last night i suddenly thought that we have no lights for them so now i have to get some sort of battery lighting the event is held at night. We need lights to cook the BBQ so that is just a small idea what we are doing

I am always organising small events from outings to street garage sales mothing to the extent of what you are doing but my dream in life is that one day to put on a country music concert, this will happen if I ever win a lot of money as I would like to be able to pay the artists well and yet make the tickets cheap enough for people to afford...oh well one can dream.

Lilaclady ,my motto is "NO REGRETS" so i am going to encourage you to go for it . You can hunt around to find sponsors and do as i do i beg borrow or steal(not really steal)to make sure i achieve what i want . If i was in melbourne i would help you . But i know you could do it and i am here on the internet to help. You would need help as there is so much involved but if you get the ball rolling do a fesability study . The best way is to do it for Charity that way companies will help also contact the charity you want to support and they have lots of help. Performers will often perform for free or a much reduced fee. Please consider it and i would fly to melbourne to help if needed.Remember NO REGRETS

my last job, i was in HR. the company had never had any functions for the employees, so i started up a program. i planned a company picnic in the summer and began having an annual christmas party in december. there were approximately 300 employees at the organization, with roughly 250 or more attending the events. i originally started a commitee for the planning, but with schedule conflicts, it was easier to take the bulk of the responsibility on myself, with reliance on a few other individuals. i can relate to you, because it was very difficult with the full time job, a family and all the planning, but it was so worth it for me. the appreciation from the employees for actually thinking of them made all the headaches worth while. that and i love to do things like that. good luck
