After a couple of days of tripping back in the 60s with Steve Miller songs I'll bring you back to the "commercial" era with today's entry on my list of favorite songs by the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer. Having said that, today's song has a little bit of "throwback" feel to it, in both the blues and psychedelia. Here it is.
#4: Sacrifice
I first heard of Les Dudek on Boz Scaggs' Silk Degrees album. He played slide guitar on "Jump Street." Most people heard of Les Dudek because he was one of Cher's musician-boyfriends-du jour in the late 70s. This guy smokes on guitar.
Hey, he's not a half-bad songwriter, either! He co-wrote "Sacrifice," which Miller covered on Book of Dreams. Dudek later recorded it himself on his second album. The two rockers ("Jungle Love" and "The Stake") "Sacrifice" sits between makes it more beautiful, almost like an island of heartbreak between two "primitive" rockers. It's been a favorite of mine since I got that album, 41 years ago.

I pray they treat you right:

There is a slow jam guitar blues vibes. Reminiscent of Clapton.

When I was around 11 or 12, my friend had a Les Dudek 8-Track that he got from his dad. We used to jam the hell out of it.
