Election versus *selection*

Would democracy be better served if we were represented in government by those among us *randomly selected* as opposed to those who sought, ran, and got elected? Imagine jury duty. Can you see our juries populated by just those folks who had the money and the back-stabbing wherewithal to make it in politics? So, what if our politics were turned on its head and virtually eliminated in definition by a process that makes it unnecessary to seek your fellow citizen's vote? What if politics were replaced by a notion of civic duty?

Many things start out good and get abused and changed.. This system was the best for preserving (conserving) liberty as opposed to full government/big brother control. So to me, simply starting over, or taking the money out, would work for me. Along with term limits!!

I've often suggested that service in the House of Representatives should be assigned the way jury duty is assigned and that the Senate should be abolished altogether. We don't need two houses doing the same basic job.

It is a good question. I sometimes imagine different future scenarios regarding politics.
