Day 56
Luke 13:10-17
Luke 13:10 And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath.
11 And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself.
12 And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity.
13 And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.
14 And the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because that Jesus had healed on the sabbath day, and said unto the people, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath day.
15 The Lord then answered him, and said, Thou hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering?
16 And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?
17 And when he had said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed: and all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.
If people want to find fault with you, they will criticize everything you do, even when you’re doing something good that helps people.
Jesus healed a woman on the sabbath who had a physical infirmity for eighteen years. As soon as he did, the ruler of the synagogue reprimanded the woman for being healed, and Jesus for healing her.
Jesus’ response to the rebuke told those listening 1) he was a hypocrite because he worked on the sabbath by loosing his animals and taking them for water, and 2) Satan was behind the woman’s infirmity. It was only right to heal her on the sabbath.
As Christians, you come under scrutiny by all those who want to tear apart your activities as Christians. They criticize the money you give to God’s kingdom. That is the biggest issue people have with Christians. The next is telling people what God did for you, and how he blessed you. People will try to explain your testimony away as something scientific and not by the hand of God. However, you know the truth.
Satan will do whatever it takes to stop your testimony. Satan is a liar and the father of lies. His mission is to kill, steal, and destroy, but Jesus’ purpose is to give life.
John 10:10 The thief comes not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
When Jesus healed the woman, he showed her the power of God to give her an abundant life free of Satan’s hold on her.
Does Satan have you bound? It’s time to trust God to heal you and set you free.
Let’s pray: Father, loose me from any bondage Satan has me bound, and let me be a testimony of your love for me. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
