Even though the name Caroll Spinney is not a household name in show business since he was the puppeteer of the Sesame Street characters Oscar The Grouch and Big Bird for 49 years, the news of his retirement will not send shockwaves on the entertainment industry. Caroll 's resume includes his time working with the United States Air Force and working puppet shows in Las Vegas before he met the late Jim Henson at a puppeteer convention in 1962. Henson who was the creator of the Muppets characters hired Spinner in 1969 when Sesame Street began their children's show on television in 1969. Thank you Caroll Spinney for your work in show business. Enjoy your retirement years.
