Day 62 Luke 14:12 Luke 14:12 Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou make a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbors; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee. 13 But when thou make a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind: 14 And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just. 15 And when one of them that sat at meat with him heard these things, he said unto him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God. 16 Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many: 17 And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready. 18 And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused. 19 And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused. 20 And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come. 21 So that servant came, and showed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind. 22 And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room. 23 And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled. 24 For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper. Have you ever refused a dinner invitation? Did you have a good excuse not to accept? People have many excuses for not accepting invitations. Jesus showed excuses for not accepting his invitation will not go well with the person who refused. Jesus gave the people a parable, an earthly story with a heavenly meaning, to show how God invited first, his chosen people to accept him as their Savior, their Messiah. However, they rejected him. In so doing, Jesus said the invitation would go to the world, and those who received the invitation first, would not taste his supper. Revelation 19:7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honor to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. 8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. 9 And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he said unto me, These are the true sayings of God. As Christians, you answered the invitation to come and dine at the table. You accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord. However, Jesus did not close the door to his chosen people when they refused to acknowledge him as their Messiah. The invitation is still there for his people to accept him. John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believes; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. God’s invitation will always be to his chosen people first, and then the world. That is why we are to pray for the people of Israel. One day they will acknowledge their Messiah. Psalm 122:6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee. 7 Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within thy palaces. 8 For my brethren and companions’ sakes, I will now say, Peace be within thee. 9 Because of the house of the LORD our God I will seek thy good. (KJV) Have you accepted God’s invitation to come and dine at his table? Let’s pray: Father, thank you for the invitation to come and dine at your table. Help me bring others to your table, so they can know you and the love you have for them. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen. Copyright © 23 October 2018 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay
