There's a huge problem with time travel

Actually, there are many huge problems with time travel, such as the fact that nobody has the faintest idea how to do it, and even if they did, it would pose some interesting conundrums concerning the possible rewriting of history. However, just suppose that you were able to dematerialise right now and turn up again 100 years ago or in the future. Where exactly would you re-appear? Don't forget that Planet Earth is constantly on the move, not only orbiting the Sun but being carried by the Sun on a very long journey around the Milky Way. So when you popped back into existence you would not be standing on a solid planet but floating about in cold, dark space! Fortunately Dr Who does not have this problem, because her craft the Tardis is so called because the letters of the name stand for Time And Relative Dimensions In Space. As a time traveller you have get time and space perfectly coordinated to avoid ending up absolutely nowhere!

@indexer I travel millions of miles and back in time some considerable distance every night in my dreams but have always woken up in my own bed.

@xander6464 I reckon that if I was a travel agent and Dr Who walked into my place of work I might get ever so slightly anxious about what I could offer her - especially if she wanted to use her frequent flyer discount!

@indexer On the other hand, can you claim air miles if the bulk of your travel is through spaces where there isn't any air?

And yet, Stephen Hawking said that it is possible.

@db20747 Yes, I'm convinced it is possible to do that but God will decide if we will do it. Same with visiting the past.

@db20747 Surely if you travelled to a point a billion light away you would be going into the past, not the future!

I'd go back and talk to my younger self and give my younger self lots of financial advice.

"100 years ago"---heck in my case that would be 1918--my parents were already living in New York City and I was shown many pictures of that time plus I've seen movies supposedly of that era--I'm ready!

They solved it in The Time Machine and The Time Tunnel.

I don't think that H G Wells gave any thought to the displacement problem referred to above.

I would go back to the sixties and change my whole life. Or to last night and win that billion dollar lotto. Didn“t Hawkings say there would be time travel?

I also think that time travel is possible but we would not be able to interact or change anything but only be observers and learn more about certain events.

I travel forward in time at the rate of about a minute per minute. If only I could reverse, or even stop that inexorable plod...

You may be able to travel far into the future like 1 billion light years away traveling ten time the speed of light!!! I would love to try that!!! And use the imagination to see what technology would be like then!!!
