I had already seen the film The Imitation Game about the life of Alan Turing and the deciphering of the Enigma code during the second world war.
The movie is wonderful and treats the subject of Turing´s homosexuality with great respect what makes it even more shocking. It seems that it is impossible to believe that homosexuality was treated in such a harsh way in England in 1950 or so. But then, when we think about the racial prejudices we still have, or the way women are starting to fight for equality only now, it seems that there is still a long way to go.
During my lifetime I have seen great men and women who have had to hide their sexuality. I´m glad that this movie opens up a subject of conversation.

@allen0187 Not all Oscar winning movies are very good, but this one is.

It is. And I tend to be irritated by posthumous pardons. The apology occurred in 2009, a long time after Turing was acknowledged as a national hero.

@topffer Those beasts should be castrated.
I´m sorry. I should not have said this. Not online, at least.

@marguicha Even more when you know that the minister of Justice refused to grant the pardon in 2009, and that, reintroduced in 2012 after a request of the House of Lords, the Commons were doing their best to delay their decision and would perhaps never have voted it.

Trust me--Gay people are still being treated in harsh ways in EVERY country in the world!
