This is in connection with my post yesterday about the eggs I found few days ago in our front yard. Finally, I now caught the owner of the eggs. The hen now started to clutch its eggs for possible hatching. I hope to see the progress in the next couple of days if the chicks would come up. We will see how well this broody on its dedication of hatching the eggs or would abandon it later.

We don't currently have a rooster so the last time my broody hen (we have one in our flock who is forever going into brood mode) I bought her some day old chicks to raise. She's an excellent chick-mom.

I think you need to get one to partner with.

@ZedSmart the last rooster we had ended up in the soup pot because he had taken to attacking me. We will probably keep one of the junior roosters we currently have, but only as long as he behaves himself.

@SophiaMorros Oh poor rooster you have there. There it goes in the pot and finally in the stomach.

Finally the proud mom has shown itself. I hope that she would stay there until her little broods will come out.

Nope. It is owned by someone that I do not know. I would just leave it there for the meantime. I would no longer search for the owner because surely, it would find its way home after that.

if the eggs hatch to become chicks, do you have a fence to keep them protected?

Actually the hen is not ours. I think after that, the hen would return to her real owner plus the chicks if any of it would hatch.
