This is one of those things that I knew but didn't remember. Wilson Pickett, the legendary R&B singer, is buried here in Louisville. Why he's buried in Louisville, I don't know. He was born in Alabama and died in Virginia. According to Picky Wedia he spent a number of years here and loved the city. Today I stumbled across his grave. Not literally, mind you, given that he's buried in a mausoleum. But I found his grave today in an unusual way. My aunt's funeral was today. In keeping with her final wishes, it was family only, very small, and very brief. It was held in the small chapel near her gravesite, where she is interred with her beloved husband (who died in 1992). The small chapel is also a mausoleum. And it's there that Wilson Pickett's remains are resting. If it weren't such a horrible day (my aunt's funeral, Freddie Hart died, the massacre of Jews attending a bris in Pittsburgh) I would've done one of those thousand dances Pickett mentioned in his hit. In some places it’s easier than others. There’s a cemetery near Nashville that has a section called “Music Row,” where a lot of the country music singers are buried. The only graves I had to go “look” for were Jim and Jack Anglin’s...but then, I’m probably the only one who would go look for their graves.

@Ronrybs — in art appreciation class we had an assignment to “go somewhere there’s art and write about it,” and I picked a cemetery.

@FourWalls I guess the nearest thing to that would be Highgate cemetery, with famous authors, musicians and thinkers like Karl Marx. The west half of the cemetery is full of over the top Victorian architecture

I am sorry for the loss of your aunt. She was right there with you when you found Wilson Pickett's grave. Maybe some day you will go back and do that dance. I didn't know about Freddie Hart until just now.

Oh, thought that was a baseball hall of fame statue, speaking of which looks Like Red Sox are on their way to winning their fourth world series in 14 years. I cannot stand them and Dodgers are my rivals. That tells you how much I hate them. They can thank their fans for that. Love some of the punk rock that comes out of there, but many Red Sox fans are a bunch of whahhhhhhhh babies. That being said, feel a bit stupid because I know that song and love it. Sorry about your aunt also.

Thanks, Crossbones. I’m pretty sure (and @JohnRoberts will concur) that the Dodgers’ season ends tonight. They don’t even look like they’re trying...well, their manager looks like he isn’t trying.

@FourWalls I kind of said that the 9th inning when they did not bat David Freese with two on. I am like they deserve to lose, did he not see what he did in 2011. Oh well, they won that one but could tell right there does not know what he has. I get not always going to work out but over that other guy experience matters. That was some ego there or something. Dodgers always end up with worst managers. The curse of Tommy. lol

@FourWalls I thought the massacre of the Jews in a Pittsburgh Synagogue was 11 murdered and not 12. It was a very sad day not only for the Jews there but for all of us here in Israel and the Jews around the world. I remember Wilson Pickett. That is interesting that you stumbled upon his grave. I give you my condolences for your loss. Thank you so much for mentioning here about what happened in Pittsburgh. They have done that to us in Israel when we want to celebrate our holidays and our enemy will not leave it alone.

Thank you for your kind words. I ache for Jews the world over who just want to live in peace (the Jewish doctors in Pittsburgh treated the suspect, and Jewish doctors treat terrorists who try to kill fellow Israelis...makes you wonder why people hate those with that degree of kindness in their hearts). I read a book called Why the Jews? by a leading politically conservative Jew and a well-known rabbi, and their conclusion was people hate Jews "because they're Jews."

@FourWalls We are a divided people and so that is why they attack us. If we united together then they could not touch us. That is very true People hate us because we are Jews. Hitler did not care when he rounded my People up in Europe how much Jewish blood they had. We have been hated for so long. You are right that our doctors here in Israel have treated terrorists and our enemies to send people out to murder us. I appreciate you mentioning it and what happens to us too. In 1948 when we were given a sliver of land we took it and the Arabs got a bigger piece but did not accept it and decided to go to war against us. Yes we want to live in peace but our enemies do not

Thank you. She had Alzheimer's, and in many regards we "lost" her months ago. The last time I saw her I don't know if she knew it was me or thought I was my mom.

@Courage7 — it’s like my dad (who also had it), you lose them twice.. The first time is harder, or it was in my aunt’s case, because I walked in and I don’t know if she thought she saw me or my mom.

Sorry for your loss. I am sure your aunt was there with you in spirit. How interesting that you found Wilson Pickett's resting place. You got me interested about him and it was interesting to read that Little Richard gave the eulogy and blessings in his final day.

Thanks so much. She was a terrific person (I wrote a discussion about her earlier this week), and I know she'd probably that we made a bigger fuss over being at Wilson Pickett's grave than little old her.
