The mood at work could be subdued tonight

From 5 this evening I will be doing my regular weekly stint as a librarian at De Montfort University Library, Leicester.
This will be almost exactly 48 hours since a terrible tragedy occurred less than half a mile away when the owner and chairman of Leicester City Football Club was killed in a helicopter crash as he was leaving the ground after Saturday's match. There were four other victims - the pilot and his partner, and two employees of the chairman.
Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha was a billionaire from Thailand who bought the club in 2010 and was instrumental in enabling Leicester City to win the premiership title in 2016 as 5000-1 outsiders. He was greatly liked by everyone associated with the club - he had made himself part of the Leicester City community and made a point of attending as many home fixtures as he could.
He was also involved in the cultural life of the city of Leicester and his support for charities and the two universities was considerable.
The Vice-Chancellor of De Montfort University has put out a statement of condolence and declared a "minute's silence and minute's applause" to be held tomorrow morning.
It is a very sad time for the whole of Leicester.
